Well, i believe that multiculturalism is the appreciation and acceptance or promotion of multiple cultures, applied to the demographics of specific place, usually at the organisational level. For e.g. schools, businesses, neighborhood, cities or nations.

Great post Cath. I totally agree with your post... except the dancing one. My son, Tyler and I, enjoying putting on a little show together. I won an award for the parents at the disco which he remembers and was proud of. :-)

The only thing I would add as a single parent is to make sure that teachers know that they need to get 2 sets of messages off to both parents to ensure you know what is going on, including show up on the "special days", etc... (Even if you and your ex get on well and still work together like I do, sometimes the word does not get through!) Otherwise you will get the rattling sentence when you walk up to the school gate, like "Oh, yeah it is Mufty Clothes Day"... or "I was supposed to come dressed as a cowboy" for the performance at Assembly! So what I learned (again... I did learn it the year before) is really work hard to find out what is going on from the teacher, other parents and if you are lucky, your own child!

Keep up the great work with the site. Inspiring! Thanks, Tony

Great story, so many others have travelled this emotional roller coaster. If it helps my son with DS is now 23, there has not been a day or night when he hasn't told us how much he loves us. We are on small acreage and he is always there to help with the "heavy" loads. Christopher had open heart surgery at eight months, and he is a really fit young man. He works out 4 to six hours each day, swims each day(summer and winter)achieved his provisional black belt in Mixed Martial Arts, and scholastically he passed a modified HSC. He is our life, AND we are his.

Great article! Thanks! I just started sending my daughter to kindergarten this year after she turned 4 in January and am going to pull her out because I think she needs another year of playing. She is very articulate, confident, sociably etc but she is telling me that she is too small for kinder and she doesn't want to go any more. Kinder teacher says she will get through the kinder year no problems but it is when she reaches school that her young age might make it difficult for her. YOu are right, a child can be ready in all areas but if they are emotionally immature, they need that extra year. Even though I had made up my mind not to send her this week and wait another year, reading your article made me feel more at peace with my decision to take her out of kinder. SO thank you for sharing. I have past this onto a friend to read as she is in the same position as I am.

Hi Tara
I think the most important thing here is not to let meal times become battle grounds.
If she won't eat vegetables then don't push it. Let her eat what she will from the healthy food choices you offer her and don't let her fill up on sweet biscuits or lollies.
She isn't going to volunarily starve herself. Appetite varies in little ones. They are usually not so hungry when not growing and very hungry when going through a growing spurt.
Some little ones don't like cooked vegetables but will happily eat raw ones.
Let her see that you and the rest of the family eat vegetables and it won't be long before she is asking for some.
Does she still have a lot of milk? It can be that children are too full from drinking to eat.
She won't be like this forever and it is always better to let children adjust their appetite accoding to their needs. It prevents a lot of eating problems later on.
Warm regards, Alison
